Still Here...

Hello again! No need to worry if you don't hear from me regularly. Just assume I'm breastfeeding or napping!! That's what my week has been filled with as she was losing weight at her weigh in on Monday and doc wants to put some meat on her bones and moved my 3 hour feedings to 2 hour feedings (from start to start) and it's kicking my butt and taking my name!

My milk supply is less than what she needs (sad sigh) so he's trying to boost my supply by stimulating my body to produce more. He wants me to b-feed, then feed stored pumped breastmilk from the bottle, then pump any leftovers for the next feeding. The whole session takes over an hour so it leaves little downtime as you can imagine!! During my downtime, I can either nap, write one of many thank you notes, call someone back, check my email, or do laundry and the napping ALWAYS wins! teehee (Sorry if I owe you a call, email or thank you note...thanks for being patient with me)

Any suggestions on how to boost my milk supply? I'm drinking water like a crazy woman, eating well, drinking fenugreek tea, taking fenugreek supplements and getting as much sleep as possible. She goes in for another weigh in on Friday so we're hoping for big numbers!! She's pooping and peeing around the clock so we know she's getting a lot of milk in her, but I want my supply to keep up with her demands!!

As for Lily, she is pure heaven! She has the calmest, sweetest disposition ALL of the time!! She sleeps a lot and I actually miss her when she's sleeping bc she's so cute and alert when she is awake. I love her so much that it actually hurts my heart. My heart hurts with love. I never knew that feeling. I never knew it was possible. It's such a vulnerable feeling. I swear she has smiled at me 5-6 times when I'm cooing at her. It could be a newborn reflex, but it melts my heart no matter why it's happening!!

Another reason I havent posted is because I couldn't post over those beautiful pictures Kelle took so I decided to copy and paste them again to melt your hearts! She does that daily to David and me! We can't believe how blessed we are!!

I don't know how we'll ever thank Kelle for taking these newborn pictures of our angel. There are no words for these pictures. She captured Lily in her essence. Pure heaven. Please go see her talents and Lily's best friend at http://enjoyingthesmallthings.blogspot.com/

Kelle captures the essence of Lily in this picture. She is like this most of the day and night.
Cute. Cuddly. Content.

She's snuggly...

She's itty bitty...

She's adorable inside and out...

She completes our family...

She loves unconditionally...

She is happy when she's awake...

She loves her fingers...

She is the center of our life...

We are better people for having her here.
Lily, thank you for being you and filling our hearts with pure love. xoxo

good to see you up and writing! it gets much much better. i think you are doing all the right things with increasing your supply! your milk supply should adjust...just give it time and relax! enjoy this...and i know that i'm not owed any thanks, emails or calls (you don't even know me...) - but my opinion...is... that everyone can and will wait. there should be a get out of cards/email/calls free card. you are doing exactly what you need to be doing right now...taking care of yourself and your baby! it gets easier...those first few weeks feel like all you do is nurse. then all of sudden you get to a point where, you realize they haven't nursed in 4 or 5 hours...(you have a little time before then! enjoy the time right now.)
amazing how quickly you fall in love isn't it? there is really no other love as strong.

CONGRATULATIONS!! Hi Kelly! This is Ashley. She is beautiful!! Enjoy every minute, it goes by way too fast! Things will get easier with breastfeeding as both of you get better at it. One thing that you may want to try is oatmeal. Someone told me that oatmeal helps with milk supply and it works for me. I eat a bowl every morning (it can even be oatmeal cookies!). Fenugreek also does the trick. The more you nurse and pump the more your body will produce. Have you ever heard of cafemom.com? They have a breastfeeding group that is very helpful. You may want to check it out. Congratulations again and I wish you all the best.

Kelly now that Ashley mentioned it I also remember Jess saying she ate oatmeal to up her supply in one of her recent posts. Since I never got a huge supply of milk either another thing I just thought of was when I skipped a day of nursing (had to leave the baby with Rich's mom one day) my supply was HUGE the next day - I mean it was the one and only time I knew what engorged meant. That maybe something you'd want to ask your LC about but you'd have to fill in with formula or stored milk...Donna

You're doing everything you can and you're doing it right! The more you nurse, the more milk you will produce. Keep at it girl. I remember walking around all day and NEVER getting a shirt even ON. There was no point. I felt like a milk machine for the first 3 weeks or so. It WILL get better and so much easier. I promise.

Sounds like you are doing it all perfectly, everyone's body is different. Some are like cows and some aren't. I was not a cow and Jonah was 9 lbs so I had to supplement with formula. Happily, Lily isn't a big bruiser!

Nursing is HARD work! That was one thing that no one told me.

Kelly,
It's a very trying time and know that many have gone through the same thing. Stay calm and hang in there! Lots of love from the Overmyers.

I know I left a post yesterday, but I have to tell you something.
Go onto iTunes and listen to the song from Cinderella called "So This is Love" by Ilene Woods & Mike Douglas. The lyrics: "So this is the miracle that I have been dreaming of... so this is love" were writen just for new mommies and daddies like you. :) It will make you shiver.....
